American Heirloom and Women's History Month - March 2024

It's been quite a while since we sent out an update and I felt that Women's history month would be a great time to really catch everyone up on where we are, what's happening and where we are headed. Change and evolution is really the order of the day.

Where we are - new ideas, letting go of the past
As we continue to evolve, our mission goes beyond crafting just housewares and tabletop items that inspire. We aspire to be a source of inspiration for aspiring craftswomen, breaking down barriers and encouraging them to pursue their passions fearlessly.  We've always used digital processes, like laser etching and 3D programs to get our products and to inform how our product is designed and made. We've truly embraced technology along the way and a love of materials, such as Corian, etc.

Recently, I have been thinking a great deal about the idea of how we have brought products to the market and how often we have been able to do that.  These days things change so quickly and new products are made almost instantly overnight. I don't know if any of you are aware, but we have been making our signature cake stands since 2013.

They have been for sale for over 10 years!

Which seems so long and short at the same time.  In order to move forward and give our tiny team more time to dream, we are going to phase out some of the styles that are currently for sale.  It's taken me some time to get to this point and I am super excited to see our studio open up to new work and ideas.  Starting this month till they sell out, we will be phasing out the wedding, the skinny, the stout and the BFS stands.  We have some in stock, so we will encourage you to purchase what you need until they run out!  We will take the time to develop new stands that reflect our design ideas very soon.  Perhaps we will ask for your insights in the coming months...
What's happening - getting more personal, product design
In a world where craftsmanship meets empowerment, being a woman-owned business in our community is a journey of breaking barriers stretching my personal limits to be both maker, owner, and mother.

It's been a journey and a balancing act.

Our studio proudly stands as a beacon of creativity, resilience and dedication to producing quality, made in the USA products.  We've always offered customization options for our woodwork. Whether it’s personalized engraving, a specific wood finish or a unique design, we provide the opportunity to make these pieces truly their own. These pieces are more than kitchen essentials, they are companions in the creation of delightful moments and memories.

We will be starting with our strengths as a brand and offer more opportunities to engrave and make something more personal as we update some of our favorite cutting boards shapes and styles.  We are also committed to our corporate gifting clients and hope to encourage more opportunities to work together to create those OOAK products and experience.

American Heirloom brings a distinctive touch to the art of woodworking, breaking free from gender norms, we thrive in creativity and infuse precision into every piece, redefining what it means to be a craftswoman in a traditionally male dominated field. The intricate modern designs, attention to detail and commitment to quality, showcase the strength that comes from embracing the feminine perspective in woodworking.
Where we are headed - focusing on the AH journal, launching mini collections
We've decided to relaunch our journal on the site.  I am personally excited to spend a bit more time writing and explaining our process a bit better through the journal and the newsletter.   We've got some incredible neighbors in the navy yard, there is so much happening in Brooklyn, it would be a shame not to share.   We are going to start small and go a bit back to our roots and I hope you plan on following along.

We will be working on a few mini collections to build back some momentum in our process.  This is where we need your help the most, let us know what you think?

Write us back in the comments and let us know if a collection resonates?  We should have our first mini project set to go in late April.  Seeing women in various fields can be incredibly empowering and that is exactly what Women's History Month is all about.

We invite women to embrace the joy of cooking and entertaining, transforming everyday routines into cherished experiences, teaching and learning moments. As we continue to press on after 13 years in business, we want to keep inviting women to embrace the beauty of our creations, the craftsmanship that goes into each piece and find joy in the artistry behind it all. As we shape the future of our young female craftsmen and entrepreneurs, we continue to celebrate the unwavering commitment to quality craftsmanship.

We will continue to celebrate the modern ways you build new traditions.
